When “The Love Guru” trailer hit the net a month ago, I laughed. There, I admit it!
Daffy comedies are a rare breed these days, and watching Mike Myers clown his way around the screen again after a five-year absence (the “Shrek” movies don’t count) delights me. Even if the trailer stuck to selling obvious “Austin Powersesque” punchlines, there’s still a mischievous spirit to Myers that should be around multiplexes more often.
“The Love Guru” hits screens on June 20th, but in the weeks leading up to release, Myers is offering viral site mini-sutras, presented in a very odd, but effective “Clutch Cargo” fashion that either reeks of star-driven laziness or acute promotional fair warning.
